A Room with a View

On Saturday 28 November, Victorians will go to the polls and vote for the next Victorian State Government. The Medically Supervised Injecting Room (better known as the MSIR) in North Richmond, Melbourne, has continued to be a hot topic in the lead up to the state election. Despite the documented success and positive impact of the service, recent discussions have included talk of closing the room and/or relocating it. In this context, we thought visitors to the HRA site might enjoy this new podcast from the Yarra Drug & Health Forum (YDHF) documenting the history of the MSIR. It tells the story of how the MSIR came to be and examines its impact on lives, public health, North Richmond’s streets and the wider community. Importantly, it asks: What value does the room add to those who use it? What do locals really think and what will happen if the service were relocated?
